Parks, Trails, and Rueter-Hess Updates for June

Draft Annual Report Review and Discussion
Lauren Pulver, Planning Supervisor shared the draft of the annual report and the
updates that were made since last meeting.
The outreach and activity section has been expanded to show the Historic Preservation
Board has had a more active role this year. Parker Area Historical Society, Schweiger
Ranch Archaeology Day, and Colorado Saving Places Conference were added to the
report.
Staff will be adding a few more items to emphasize public outreach, the Historic
Preservation Board’s participation in the town hall, and adding additional photographs.
Staff will also include the full list of all the requests, along with the matrix for scoring,
and the completed rubric.
The Annual Report will accompany the prioritized budget requests when going before
the Board of County Commissioners.

Curator Updates
Brittany Cassell, Curator, updated the Board on the following projects or events:
On July 17, 2024 staff, several Board Members, and volunteers were on hand at
Schweiger Ranch for Discovery Archeology Day. Children and adults were able
participate in hands-on archeological activities, visit inside the barn, and ask questions
about artifacts. The Board saw the new signage that was installed at the property.
Parker Water and Sanitation District (PWSD) mini museum is progressing. Staff is
working on three estimates for the wagon conservation and the accompanying
interpretive signage. Staff will continue to work with PWSD on next steps.
Staff was able to submit the application for the Society of American Archeology (SAA).
Staff offered the oppotunity for an outing with a bus to come from Denver and tour the
Douglas County Repository, Cherokee Ranch and Castle, and possibly a hike.
The Site Stewardship Training Program visited Franktown Cave, Hidden Mesa Open
Space, Prairie Canyon, Blackfoot Cave, and Spring Valley School. The tentative plan for
September is to do Hidden Mesa Open Space, William Converse Ranch specifically
Blackfoot Cave,
